Are you making the most of LinkedIn?

Are you making the most of LinkedIn?

As a business owner or charity, you’ve probably dipped your toes into LinkedIn at some point. Maybe you set up a profile, connected with a few people, and then left it to gather digital dust.

After initially being daunted by LinkedIn, I have come to love the platform and the potential it provides me to reach out and build positive, relevant contacts.

But LinkedIn isn’t just an online CV, it’s a powerful tool for growing your network, showcasing your expertise, and creating meaningful opportunities.

So, how can you maximise your presence and make LinkedIn work for you?

What is LinkedIn (and why should you care)?

Launched in 2003 (yes, it’s older than Facebook!), LinkedIn now boasts 1 billion members across 200+ countries.

At its core, it’s a professional networking platform, but it’s evolved into so much more. It’s where businesses, charities, and professionals connect, share insights, and even generate leads.

If you’re not actively using LinkedIn, you’re missing out on a platform designed to help you grow and connect.

3 ways you can improve your LinkedIn profile today

1. Your profile picture

Your profile picture is the first impression people get of you, so make sure it’s a good one.

  • Use a clear, professional headshot (save that holiday snap for Instagram!)

  • Ensure the background isn’t cluttered or distracting

  • Keep it consistent with your brand if you have one

Remember, your profile picture appears every time you post or comment—make sure it represents you well.

2. Your headline and basic info

Your headline is more than just your job title. It’s a snapshot of what you do and how you help people.

Rather than just “Founder at XYZ Charity”, try something like:
“Helping charities increase donations through email marketing & social media”

This makes it instantly clear what you do and who you help.

Other key details to update:
✔ Location (helps with local connections)
✔ Website & contact info (make it easy for people to reach you)
✔ Current position & services offered

Small tweaks here can make a big difference in how people find and engage with you.

3. Showcase your services

Scrolling down on your profile, you’ll find the “Services” section. Use it!

If someone lands on your profile, make it immediately clear what you offer. Add relevant services such as:
✅ Social Media Management
✅ Email Marketing
✅ Business Coaching
✅ Copywriting
✅ Fundraising Support

Think of it as a mini business card, but better!

LinkedIn is one of the most underused marketing tools for small businesses and charities, yet it holds so much potential.

If you want to build your connections, attract the right audience, and make LinkedIn work for you, I’d love to help. Let’s chat about how you can step up your LinkedIn game!
